ASEAN2020 talks Alliance of Civilizations Institute

Professor Clarita R. Carlos, renowned political science professor of the University of the Philippines, ASEAN expert, and former President of the National Defense College of the Philippines, discussed the ASEAN 2020 Vision  at the Alliance of Civilizations Institute (ACI) in Istanbul on October 7, 2015.

Prof. Carlos started her talk by providing the audience a brief introduction on the Philippines and the ASEAN.  She then discussed the ASEAN 2020 Vision which is the enhanced regional cooperation of ten (10) ASEAN countries namely, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. She expounded on the dynamics of regional integration in Southeast Asia and what has to be done by the ASEAN member states in order for this vision to be realized.

Following the lecture, Prof. Carlos addressed a number of questions, including on the peace process in Mindanao and the maritime territorial dispute between the Philippines and China.

The Alliance of Civilizations Institute is a Graduate School of Fatih Sultan Mehmet University, which specializes on research and instruction on Civilization Studies.  Filipino scholars at the University namely, Dr. Nassef Manabilang Adiong and Messrs. Ridwan Landasan, Yusoph Ramos and Jimboy Sarip were among the attendees of the lecture.
