The Philippine Embassy in Ankara joins the diplomatic missions of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and VietNam in Ankara in a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on 6 January 2021 to discuss Turkey's relations with the Association of SouthEast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Member-States.
The Philippines is an ASEAN founding member in 1965, and remains as an active and key player in the region, including successful role as ASEAN Chair in 1987, 1999, 2006, and most recently in 2017 under the leadership of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte with the theme, "Partnering For Change, Engaging The World." Turkey officially became an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner in 2017 in Manila.
