21 February 2020 – H.E. Raul S. Hernandez, Ambassador of the Philippines to Turkey, met with Mr. Nurretin Özdebir, Chairman of the Ankara Chamber of Industry (ACI) at its headquarters on 19 February 2020. Ambassador Hernandez and Mr. Özdebir discussed ways to forge stronger commercial linkages between the Philippines and Turkey.

Ambassador Hernandez briefed Mr. Özdebir on the commercial relationship between the Philippines and Turkey including recent transactions between the Philippines and Turkish defense companies. Ambassador Hernandez noted, however, that deeper engagements between the respective business communities of both countries and cooperation in other sectors must be pursued for more balanced and sustainable commercial linkages.

Ambassador Hernandez invited Mr. Özdebir and ACI members to form part of the Turkish business delegation headed by the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) traveling to the Philippines in the first half of 2020 for the 2nd Philippines-Turkey Joint Committee on Economic and Technical Cooperation. Also discussed were prospects for cooperation in tourism and construction through the current administration’s Build Build Build Program.

Chairman Özdebir agreed to feature the Philippines on the ACI’s bi-monthly publication, Asomedya, and co-organize a one-day seminar, Philippine Country Day, to include a presentation on Doing Business in the Philippines for ACI members.

The Ankara Chamber of Industry is one of Turkey’s largest business chambers with 9,000 members in 32 different industries. ACI is responsible for exporting USD8 billion worth of industrial products in 2019. END
