The Philippines and Azerbaijan established formal diplomatic relations on 27 March 1992.
The Philippines remains committed to further strengthening its bilateral relations with Azerbaijan and identify effective means to sustain and enhance the links in all possible areas of cooperation both at the bilateral and multilateral fora.
To deepen bilateral relations between the Philippines and Azerbaijan, a Protocol for a Political Consultations Mechanism was signed between the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs and Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on 26 October 2018 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The signing of the Protocol is a positive step towards expanding the bilateral relations as it provides for the holding of political consultations between the governments of the two countries to enhance political, economic, consular, cultural, technological, and scientific areas of cooperation, and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The Philippines and Azerbaijan also cooperate on various issues of common concern in different international fora.
Diplomatic representations in Baku are led by the Philippine Embassy in Ankara, which has jurisdiction on Azerbaijan, while Azerbaijan covers the Philippines from its foreign mission based in Jakarta.
