Ankara, 2 September 2021 - Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey, Maria Elena P. Algabre, presented her credentials to the President of the Republic of Turkey, H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, at the Presidential Palace in Beştepe, Ankara, on 1 September 2021.
Ambassador Algabre was accompanied by Consul General Arvin De Leon from the Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul, and Minister and Consul General Enrique Voltaire Pingol from the Philippine Embassy in Ankara.

In bilateral discussions that followed the ceremony, Ambassador Algabre met with President Erdoğan, who was joined by Presidential Communications Director (Mr.) Fahrettin Altun, Chief Presidential Adviser and Spokesperson (Mr.) Ibrahim Kalin, and Foreign Affairs Ministry (MFA) Director General (Mr.) Yonet Ozal. The two sides discussed bilateral issues of common concern, ranging from political, defense, trade and investments, people-to-people relations, among others.

Turkish President Erdoğan conveyed to Ambassador Algabre support for her tenure as the 10th resident Ambassador of the Philippines in Turkey, and his greetings to the Filipino people and to President Rodrigo Roa Duterete, whom the Turkish President referred to as his dear friend.
Ambassador Algabre also took the opportunity to thank President Erdoğan and the Turkish people for hosting over 3,000 Filipinos in Turkey. She expressed deep appreciation for the warm welcome accorded by the Turkish government and the Turkish people. The meeting concluded with the Philippine Ambassador’s commitment to contribute in nurturing and enhancing the strong ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

On 2 September 2021, Ambassador Algabre led Team Philippines in Turkey in the traditional ceremony for newly-accredited foreign Ambassadors to Turkey to honor Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founding father and first President of the Republic of Turkey, in a wreath laying ceremony at Anitkabir, Atatürk’s mausoleum in Ankara. #END
