Baku, 23 November 2021 – Philippine Ambassador Maria Elena P. Algabre presented her credentials as non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan to His Excellency President Ilham Aliyev in official ceremonies on 23 November 2021 at the Presidential Palace in Baku. She conveyed the warm greetings of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and the Filipino people to the government and people of Azerbaijan.
During the brief meeting after the presentation, President Aliyev and Ambassador Algabre had a cordial and substantial discussion about the aspects of Philippine-Azerbaijan relations, not only at the bilateral level, but also within the larger international community. They discussed enhancing partnership in different areas such as increasing economic links, two-way tourism flows, and cooperation in education and culture. They also noted the two countries’ shared commitment to promote multilateralism, international solidarity and cooperation. The Philippines has supported the initiatives of Azerbaijan as Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), including in the global efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The President and Ambassador Algabre both looked forward to more active engagement between the Philippines and Azerbaijan in the years to come.
Ambassador Algabre thanked President Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan for the warm welcome and kind treatment accorded to Filipinos who have made Azerbaijan their second home. END
