KASTAMONU, 22 February 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Ankara and over 30 participants from the Philippines joined the 3rd International Conference on Environment and Forest Conservation (ICEFC) held at Kastamonu University (KU) in Turkey’s Kastamonu province on 21 February 2022. 

“Relations between the Philippines and Turkey remain active despite the global challenges, including during the pandemic,” remarked Ambassador Maria Elena P. Algabre during her keynote speech. “Notable are the significant  strides in strengthening cooperation in the field of education, which was made possible by the Protocol for Cooperation signed between the Philippines and Turkey in 2018,” she continued.

Themed “Environment and Forest Conservation Towards a Resilient and Sustainable Ecosystem in the Post Covid-19 Pandemic Era,” ICEFC 2022 was hosted by Turkey’s KU, in partnership with the Philippines’ Mindanao State University (MSU), Indonesia’s Bogor Agricultural University, and the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Tropical Biology (SEAMEO BIOTROP). The Conference tackled critical issues relating to environment and forestry, with the goal of contributing in the global efforts of promoting a resilient and sustainable environment through sharing of research outputs and knowledge products. The participants were mainly academicians, scientists and scholars.

Over thirty (30) participants from the Philippines led by Commissioner Dr. Aldrin Darilag of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), including top officials and members of the academe from the Mindanao State University (MSU) System and the Eastern University of the Philippines (EUP) attended the Conference.

The opening session of the ICEFC concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between MSU and KU officials, together with the EUP, aimed to pursue new projects in joint academic studies and exchanges of students, researchers and faculty members.

The 3rd ICEFC was the first conference edition hosted by Turkey. The inaugural meeting was held in the Philippines in 2018, while the second meeting was held in Indonesia in 2019.##
