ADANA, 29 April 2022 – Philippine Ambassador to Turkey Maria Elena P. Algabre met with Prof. Dr. Meryem Tuncel, Rector of Çukurova University in Adana, Turkey, on 29 April 2022, to explore possible collaboration between Philippine universities and Çukurova University. 

 “Thank you for hosting Filipino scholars in the university, who promote the warm friendship between our peoples,” said Ambassador Algabre during the meeting. 

 Ambassador Algabre and Prof. Dr. Tuncel discussed potential academic exchange programs in the fields of medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, engineering and agriculture.  The Ambassador also met  with the faculty members of the Language Department of the University, led by its Director, Prof. Dr. Yonca Ozkan.

Ambassador Algabre also gave a short  presentation  on Philippine culture and history to students of the Language Department.   She discussed the country’s strategic location, geography of 7,641 islands, and history of continuing engagement with different nationalities through trade, its colonization by other countries,  tourism and other means of people-to-people exchanges, and how these played a role towards the evolution of a rich, diverse Philippine cultural heritage.

The Embassy’s activities held with Çukurova University are part of the Embassy’s mission to enhance  awareness on, and appreciation of , the Philippines and  its people and culture, as well as to strengthen educational cooperation between the Philippines and Turkey. END
