Ambassador Maria Elena P. Algabre, with  Minister and Consul General Juan E. Dayang, Jr.,  and Third Secretary and Vice Consul Angela Margeaux Tolentino, met with UN Women Country Director Ms. Asya Varbanova on 13 September 2022, at the UNWomen office in Ankara.

Ms. Varbanova spoke about the UN Women’s program to promote women's empowerment and gender equality in Türkiye. She expressed interest in working with female  Ambassadors in Ankara, who serve as role models to girls and women.  Ambassador  Algabre shared  the Gender and Development initiatives of the Philippine Embassy,  and invited the UN Women to partner with the Embassy in promoting the rights and welfare of Filipino migrants in Türkiye,  majority of whom are women. 

 After the meeting, Ambassador Algabre presented a copy of “Women of Laguna: Continuing Old Traditions,” a coffee table book on the heritage  of traditional craftsmanship led by women in the Philippine province of Laguna.  -----
