ANKARA, 29 October 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Ankara, together with the ASEAN Ankara Committee (AAC) and Turkish government, celebrated ASEAN Week from 25 to 28 October 2022 at the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) Building in Ankara. The AAC is composed of the Embassies of the ASEAN countries in Ankara.
The opening ceremony of the ASEAN Week was formally opened with the welcome remarks of H.E. Apirat Sugondhabhirom, Ambassador of the Royal Thai Embassy in Ankara and Chairperson of the AAC, and Mr. Abdullah Eren, President of YTB. The event was graced by Turkish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sedat Önal as guest of honor.
During ASEAN Week, the Philippines and other ASEAN countries had photo exhibits, booths to display handicrafts, and film showings.

The Philippine booth featured traditional Philippine weaves made from hand-loomed textiles, such as piña (from the leaves of the red pineapple plant) and abaca (from the banana leafstalk) fibers.

Guests also got to view photographs from members of the Camera Club of the Philippines, Mr. Mark Burgos and Mr. Paul J. Resurreccion. Their photographs are part of the exhibition, “Gülümseyin (Smile), Philippines” of the Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul.

On the third day of ASEAN Week, the Embassy, in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines and UniPhilippines, held a movie screening of the Filipino film, “K’na the Dreamweaver.” Members of the Filipino community, the diplomatic corps, and the Turkish public enjoyed the film, which featured scenes from Lake Sebu in South Cotabato and the beautiful weaves of the T’boli tribe.
ASEAN Week was organized by the AAC, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and YTB to commemorate the 5th anniversary of Türkiye becoming a Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN. End
