6 March 2023 - Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Eduardo José A. de Vega of the Department of Foreign Affairs met with Turkish officials to inquire on the assistance provided by the Turkish government to Filipino migrants who were affected by the earthquake that hit the southeastern provinces of Türkiye on 6 February 2023 and the aftershocks that followed.

 

Deputy Foreign Minister Yasin Ekrem Serim thanked the Philippines for sending aid in the form of medical supplies and an 85-member Inter-Agency Humanitarian Contingent. He assured the Undersecretary that plans are underway for assisting the earthquake survivors.

 

Dr. Savaş Ünlü of the Ministry of Interior confirmed that, among the earthquake survivors, Filipino migrants who have acquired Turkish citizenship will be eligible to receive financial and housing aid from the Turkish government.
