ANKARA, 06 June 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Ankara donated books on the Philippines and Filipino Culture to the Presidential National Library, housed in the Presidential Complex in Ankara, Türkiye on 30 May 2023.

Chargé d’affaires a.i Juan E. Dayang, Jr., accompanied by Vice Consul Emile Josef Garcia and Cultural Officer Vanesa Sumera, turned over eight (8) books to Mr. Ayhan Tuğlu, Head of the Department of Libraries.

The books consist of “Bucket List Philippines” (Tourism Book), “Peace Through Interfaith Dialogue: Philippine Diplomacy and the Promotion of Mutual Understanding, Respect, and Tolerance,” “Salvador F. Bernal: Designing the Stage,” “Kulinarya – A Guidebook to the Philippines Cuisine,” “Calidad Humana: Sharing the Filipino,” “Maria Cacao Sa Siglo 21” (Filipino Children’s book), “Ayoko Po Sana” (Filipino Children’s Book), and “Noli Me Tangere” (Translated to English by Ma. Soledad Lacson-Locsin and edited by Raul L. Locsin). They will be added to the Philippines’ section, alongside the shelves of other ASEAN countries at the National Library.

Mr. Tuğlu and Mr. Yașar Çukur, the representative of the Turkish Mint, also gave the Embassy team a short tour of the library exhibition “Might and Memory: The Art of Power” which displays the orders, medals, coins, and commemorative coins from the Turkish State Mint’s collection.

One of the largest in Türkiye, the library’s collection comprises approximately 2,000,000 printed books, 2,000,00 periodicals of 12,500 printed journals, 46 databases with access to 550,000 e-books, 6,500,00 electronic theses, 120,000,000 articles and reports, and 60,000 e-journals. It is open 24 hours a day and seven days a week. It is accessible to all Turkish residents with national identification cards (kimlik) and foreigners with passports and has online access to up to 10,000 users at any given time. END
