09 April 2024, Ankara, Türkiye – The Philippine Embassy in Ankara commemorated the 82nd Araw ng Kagitingan or Day of Valor in a simple program held at the Philippine Embassy on 09 April 2024.
On behalf of Ambassador Henry S. Bensurto, Jr., Minister and Consul General Juan E. Dayang Jr., the Chargé d’Affaires a.i., led the officers and staff of the Embassy in commemorating the Araw ng Kagitingan with the theme "Pagpaparangal sa Kagitingan ng mga Beterano: Saligan para sa Nagkakaisang Pilipino.” The event began with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by the Turkish National Anthem and the recitation of Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Watawat (Pledge of Allegiance).
Third Secretary and Vice Consul Emile Josef B. Garcia read the message of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. while Minister Dayang and Defense and Armed Forces Attaché Col. Harold Argamosa delivered their messages on the occasion.
In his message, Minister Dayang honored the sacrifices made by our forefathers in fighting for our freedom and democracy. “Let us be inspired in their unwavering courage, patriotism and dedication to our country and let us strive to uphold the ideals they fought for,” he said. He reflected on the cross in Mt. Samat as a symbol of hope after the sufferings of our soldiers in the Fall of Bataan.
To conclude the event, the officers and staff of the Embassy watched a 10-minute informative video entitled “Bakit tinawag na Araw ng Kagitingan ang Fall of Bataan” produced by the GMA Integrated News via YouTube, which explains the importance of the historic Fall of Bataan on the point of view of Filipino historians.
